Mangaluru: The Konaje Police arrested a cameraperson, formerly working for a local news channel in the city for raping a minor after making false marriage promises.
The accused, Anup was arrested under the POSCO Act based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s mother.
It is gathered that Anup had befriended the class nine girl at one of the television programmes and later started visiting her house often. He had reportedly promised the girl of marriage before impregnating her.
However, he later moved out of the city and took up a job in Bengaluru with a private television channel. The girl’s family members approached women’s organisations for help after she became pregnant and through them the Women and Child Welfare Department was intimated.
Anup who was summoned on the basis of the complaint has confessed to his crime during a counselling session, it is learnt.
