Bantwal: In a fatal incident, a child and two persons died due to lightning near the banks of Nethravathi river in Jakribettu, Bantwal.
The deceased have been identified as Jayamma, Kanakamma and a four-year-old child. They were the residents of Jagare Hobli in Javanagonda village of Hiriuru Taluk in Tumukuru district.
It is also gathered that another child which was severely injured due to the intensity of lightning has been admitted to a hospital.
The deceased were contract labourers who worked for the second phase of drinking water project of Bantwal Municipal Council at Jakribettu.
This incident occurred when Jayamma and Kanakamma asked their children to sit on a boulder and were engaged in washing their clothes.
Due to intensity of the lighting, Jayamma and Kanakamma were flung into the river and they drowned to death.
Both the children who were severely injured were taken to a hospital, but the four-year-old was declared brought dead.
Bantwal Tahsildar Purandar Hegde and Town Police Inspector Rakshith Shetty visited the spot.
