Mangaluru: After taking the sandalwood by storm by his evidently ‘different’ films, actor-director Rakshith Shetty said that he would want to work in Tulu film industry and makes Tulu films that would be noted in the international arena.
Speaking to students of Nitte University’s Nitte Institute of Communication on March 14, Shetty said that a film is never popular because of the language in which it is made.
“If that was true than a film like ‘Apocalypto’ , which was based on Mayan period could have never achieved great success. Tulu is my mother tongue. I would like to work in the Tulu industry and make films that would make a mark,” said the artist.
Speaking of Kannada Film Industry, the actor stressed on how making parallel cinemas are a necessity to break the monotony of catering to a single audience.
“Sandalwood has been catering to a single crowd for a long time. Now it’s high time for the parallel cinema to step in and make a difference,” he said adding that Late Shankar Nag was his inspiration.
“I am very much inspired by Shankar Nag sir. He is a star we lost very early but his achievements still don’t fail to mesmerize us. I want to accomplish at least half of what he has done during his lifetime,” he said adding that with need for middle class multiplexes being felt, his production house-Paramvah is striving to bring in new middle class theatres.
Head of the Department Prof Raviraj Kini and other faculty members were present on the occasion.
