Mangaluru: The dacoity case of Kateel Durgaparameshwari Temple Head Priest Vasudev Asranna which took place at Gidikere on October 4 has taken the next leap with four more accused in cuffs. On October 17, five arrests in the same case had been made and 0the Bajpe Police and City Crime Branch had intensified the investigation in the matter.
Addressing the media, Commissioner of Police Chandra Sekhar on Monday revealed the names of the fresh arrests. Bharath Shetty (30) from Karkala, Mohammad Ali (35) from Bantwal, Purushottam (44) from Haleyangadi and Harish Gatty (41) from Ucchila were arrested and 455 grams of gold, a machete, a revolver, a pistol, a breach loading gun, 12 bullets and four mobile phones were recovered from them.
Chandra Sekhar added that the prime accused Sudhindra H K had taken the help of Bharath in the crime. “All of the accused had loans on them which they could not repay and dacoity was means they chose to repay”, Chandra Sekhar said.
Bharath Shetty is a notorious criminal with antecedents in Mumbai. He was involved in the Suleman murder case and Leo Periera abduction case. In addition to these cases, Bharath had also been booked under the Arms Act in Mumbai.
The first five arrested had plotted the crime and seven othe gang members had executed the crime. The seven member gang headed by one “Lizo” is absconding and the police are doing their best to net the criminals.
Chandra Sekhar feted Bajpe and City Crime Branch teams each with Rs. 10,000 cash reward for the extensive effort they put in this case.
