Kasargod: In yet another case of political killing, a BJP worker was brutally hacked to death by miscreants who barged into his house late on Wednesday night at Kannur.

In a separate incident, hand-made bombs were also hurled at RSS office at Taliparamba, which has turned the area tense. With the killing of the BJP member and the bomb hurling incident, the BJP has called for a bundh on Thursday.

The deceased is Santhish (52) from Andallur near Dharmadam of Kannur district.

It is said that the incident took place around 11.30 pm when armed miscreants broke open the door of his house and attacked him. Though he was rushed to Talassery hospital, he was declared dead.

Santhosh was all alone at home when the incident took place. With this, the BJP has called for Kannur bundh on Thursday barring only the state-level Kalothsava to be held.

Police have beefed up security in wake of the bundh. Vehicles are off road and shops are closed from Thursday morning itself.

BJP leader and Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on Tuesday had warned the CPI-M that the Centre would intervene if BJP workers continued to be physically targeted in left-ruled Kerala and would face retaliation in other parts of the country as well.

He alleged that the CPI(M)-ruled state was now known for political killings while other states in the country focused on development and economic growth.
