Sullia : Interstate bus services introduced by Kerala state road transport corporation (KSRTC) between Sullia and Kanhangad were inaugurated on September 25.
After a prolonged delay, new buses will ply between Sullia and Kanhangad daily via Panathur and Kallapalli . Earlier plans to operate buses on this route were deferred due to the bad condition of roads. People staying around the border were delighted with the introduction of new services and were seen bursting crackers, distributing sweets and decorating new buses with flowers and garlands at Panathur and Kallapalli towns.
KSRTC officials, traders, businessmen and Rotary club members were among those present in the large gathering of people, when buses arrived at Sullia bus stand at 11 am. However, except for one member from Sullia City municipal council, none of the other locally elected representatives was present on the occasion. However, many elected representatives from Kerala travelled by these new buses to show their appreciation for the new services.
Five buses will depart from Sullia at regular intervals starting 5.40 AM to 18.45 PM whereas from Kanhangad they will operate between 5.30 AM and 16.10 PM. With today’s introduction of new bus services the long-standing demands of people staying in border areas of two states has finally materialised.
