Internal committee must to safeguard women at work place, deadline Sept 21

Mangaluru: In order to prevent sexual harassment on women at workplaces in areas where there are 10 or more employees, the formation of “Internal Complaint Committee”(ICC) is compulsory.

All details related to Vishaka guidelines issued in the SC order can be obtained from Karnataka State Women’s Commission or http://www.iitg.ac.in/iitgicc/docs/Vishaka_Guidelines.pdf.

If the employer fails to comply with the order, a penalty of Rs 50,000 will be levied the first time and the penalty amount gets doubled for every repeat offence.

Employers having staff strength of 10 and more must submit all relevant details of internal complaint committee’s formed within the organisation to the Deputy Director, Department of Women and Child Development, DK District Panchayat Building, Mangalore, by September 21.

Providing information is mandatory for organisations, if there is fewer than 10 staff.

A transparent “complaint box” must be kept at the place of work and in cases of sexual harassment at places where fewer than 10 staff are present, it will be handled by the district level committees.
