Bantwal: Hindu Jagarana Vedike leader Ratnakar Shetty was apprehended by the Bantwal police on Thursday July 27 for an alleged assault on a person from the other community during the communal tensions in the region.
It may be recalled that on June 13 Ratnakar Shetty along with some other persons had allegedly stabbed Ibrahim Khaleel, who was admitted to a hospital due to his injuries. At that time Shetty had claimed that he too was stabbed by Khaleel and had been admitted to a private hospital here.
This incident had further fuelled tensions in Bantwal region with few stone pelting incidents being reported.
Meanwhile, the Sec 144 imposed in the region has been called off. However,the Section 35 invoked by the police commissioner T R Suresh will remain in existence till July 30 midnight.
