Moodabidri: The Aliyuru Primary School which partly belongs to pre-independence era has a history of its own.
Thousands of students have completed their primary education here to make a difference in the society by excelling not only in academics, but also in the field of sports and culture. The 76-year-old sections had around 400-650 students in the primary section few years ago.
To everyone’s surprise the picture this year is very different. With only four class rooms and 150 students in its rolls, the future looks bleak for the school. The school office and the store room for mid-day meals function from a nearby high school. Some parents have threatened to shift their wards due to unavailability of English teacher in the school.
The local legislator and Zilla panchayath members have turned a blind eye to the existing problem in the school despite reminders.
“It’s very painful to see the pathetic condition of the school we highly regard. We have complained to the MLA, ZP and other authorities who have assured of action within a month. In case they fail to respond and act, then we will write to the prime minister and ensure school’s survival and growth”, Ganesh B Aliyuru , local ZP member said..
