Ullal: The heroic staff of a co-operative bank managed to recover stolen gold ornaments within minutes of the theft here in Shamil complex near K C Road junction on June 23.
On Friday, a gang of robbers planned to loot the bank finding the shops in the vicinity closed down for Friday prayers. They stormed inside the bank after threatening security guard Umesh (60), threatened bank officials Manohar, Sudhir and Ramachandra and locked them inside the washroom.
Meanwhile, Ramachandra broke open the door and ran towards the robbers who were trying to escape with 30 kg gold. He flung a huge stone at the gang following which the latter escaped leaving the gold.
No CCTV, Alarm
Though CCTV was installed in the bank, it was switched off due to power cut. Even the alarm system was not available in the bank.
DCP Hanumantharaya, after visiting the bank, took the bank staff to task for the lapses.
