HC quashes petition challenging MCC decision on road renaming

Bengaluru : The state High Court (HC) dismissed a petition challenging the action of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) on Wednesday August 16 here, over keeping in abeyance the order issued by the department of urban development on behalf of the state government to rename Light House Hill Road as ‘Mulky Sunder Ram Shetty Road’.

A single judge bench of the high court chaired by Justice Vineet Kothari ruled in favour of the MCC while quashing the petition by Karunakar Shetty representing Vijaya Bank Employees and Officers Union. The bench clarified that the order issued for renaming of the said road falls in the category of administrative order and hence both the government and the MCC are entrusted with powers to stay the administrative order, in view of objections raised.
