Government school in Bandaru cries for new lease of life

Belthangady: A government school with 100% results fails to convince those in authority, even as students study in unbearable conditions where rainwater drips from roof top and wide cracks on the walls stare at them. This is the pathetic condition of a government school at Perla Bypadi located in Bandaru Gram panchyath limits which is 20-years-old.

Current status

Tarpaulins have been placed on the roof top of the RCC building and water is guided into buckets. The condition of old tiled roof building scenario is such, the walls are on the verge of collapse due to cracks. The new building constructed to replace the old building has shown signs of water leakage even before it was occupied exposing the lacunae that exist in the government construction works.

The school which started in 1997 has 97 students studying in grades 8, 9 and 10. There are 3 rooms to accommodate the students, 8 teachers (Staff room) and a computer. The post of HM, Clerk and assistant ‘D’ group employee are vacant.

Eleven computers at the school received under ICT Phase-2 allotment are under repair. Infosys foundation has supplied six computers recently after school requested for those from Infosys. The school needs new desks and benches and a playground in addition to pure drinking water for students and staff members.

What people connected to the schools say?

The Bandaru village Panchayath President BK Uday Kumar, who is aware of the problem, feels before any eventuality occurs there is need to take action. Parents and public in the village feel the response from the authorities is Luke warm.

HM incharge SK Umesh feels the school since inception in 1996 has secured 100% results five times. In the year 2104-15 the school was ranked 3rd for excellence in the district. All issues have been brought to the notice of higher-ups and  feels there is need to act in haste.
