Mangaluru: Monthly honorarium of nearly 15 home guards posted for duty at the Manguluru district prison remains unpaid since July, thanks to the recent transfers of three jail superintendents in the interim period.
Owing to shortage of staff, the district prison has deployed around 15 home Guards who receives an honorarium of Rs 325 for an eight-hour duty. However, these guards are still to receive their honorarium for the last three months.
As per reports, the reason for the delay has been the transfer of three jail superintendents in the last three months. “As per the procedure, the Digital Signature Card (DSC) of the jail superintendent is essential for releasing payments related to the prison, including that of honorarium for the Home Guards,” stated a source.
Since the process of DSC transfer takes time and the earlier two jail superintendents were transferred before they could get their DSC most of these payments have remained on hold.
However, the present Jail superintendent Parameshwar, who assumed charge on September 18 has assured of releasing the honorarium within two days of getting his DSC, stated the source.
