Mangaluru: An honest auto driver has been rewarded for handing over a bag of a passenger which was stashed with gold and valuables running into lakhs of rupees, to the police. This act of the auto driver has earned him reward and a certificate of appreciation by the city police commissioner.

Auto driver Prathap Shetty, resident of Jeppu Kuthpady took Bengaluru residents Prashanth, an engineer by profession and his wife Deepthi in his auto from KSRTC bus stand in Bejai to Kulai. When the couple alighted from auto they forgot to take the handbag and even the auto driver did not notice the same at that point of time.

After a while auto driver Pratap Shetty found the bag lying on the backseat and immediately rushed to Mangaluru north police station and handed over the same to SI Shanth Kumar.

Commending his efforts SI took the driver along with him to city police commissioner’s office where the driver was given cash award of Rs 5000 along with a certificate of appreciation by the city police commissioner Chandrashekar.

The couple ran out of words and could not believe that honesty still exists in the society where values are eroding by the minute and said such people are rare.

In this case honesty overtook greed and the auto driver deserves accolades from all corners for his honesty.
