Kasargod: A fish laden truck toppled on Chandragiri bridge on Kanhangad-Kasargod state highway in the early hours of April 22 after its driver lost control over it. In the tragic accident, the driver drowned in the river and died, while his travelling companion escaped with injuries.
Nasser (36) from Punnapra in Alappuzha is the deceased while the injured happens to be Harris (35).
Nasser who was driving truck from Goa to Alappuzha from Goa tried to avoid an auto rickshaw coming from opposite direction when the accident occurred. The truck hit the protective railing of the bridge after it toppled. The ill-fated truck driver fell into the river and ultimately drowned.
The fire brigade, coastal security force police, and locals rushed to the spot immediately after learning about the accident but failed to trace the driver in the truck. His body was found floating in the river at Chemnad after few hours.
The mortal remains of the driver were retrieved and kept in the mortuary of the general hospital here. Family members and relatives of the ill-fated driver have left Alappuzha to collect the body.
The accident caused traffic disruptions on the highway for few hours in the morning.
