Kasaragod: With intelligence reports hinting at a possible Maoist attack on police stations situated in border areas, security in three police stations will be stepped up.
Chitharikal, Aadur and Vellarikundu police stations along Reserve Forest on Kerala border have been identified as places prone to Maoist attacks.
In this regard, the compound walls around the police station will be raised and watch towers will be built soon.
The plan is to raise the height of the existing compound wall with 5 ft laterite stone wall and then lay 5 ft tall iron fence over it. Watch towers will be built in all the four sides.
A sum of Rs 30 lac has been allocated for each police station for completing the project. Even strength of the police stations will be increased, in case there is a need, said sources.
It may be recalled that some police stations in Kerala were attacked by the Maoists in the past.
