Kasargod: Endosulfan victims are gearing up to stage stir for their rights all over again and as a crucial part of this struggle, they will picket the District Collector’s office on Wednesday, August 9 at 10 am under the aegis of Endosulfan Santhrasthara Horata Okkuta.
The endo victims will reiterate their long-standing demand of implementing the National Human Rights Commission’s recommendations and the order of the Supreme Court favouring them.
Okkuta President Munissa Ambalathar in a press meet said that 5,848 victims have been listed and out of these only a small percentage are receiving the monetary help from the government. About 610 endo victims are receiving the monthly pension.
She said that despite over 1,000 new endo victims being identified during a medical camp in January, the list of endo victims has not yet been upgraded and there seems to be some degree of reluctance to do so.
Since problems encountered by the endo victims are not seeing a logical end, the Okkuta has been compelled to stage a stir, said office-bearers.
