Bantwal: Taking cue from the saying ‘prevention is better than cure’, Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada Bhushan G Borase held a precautionary meeting with the organizers of Ganesh festival on August 26 at Bantwal.
He told the organizers to strictly adhere to the police department guidelines to ensure peaceful Ganesh festival while addressing a committee meeting of festival organizers belonging to Bantwal zone at Bantwal rural police station.
Listing out the precautionary measures, the SP Borase said that the organizers must ensure that no untoward incidents and accidents take place around pandals. Proper electricity flow has to be maintained and safety measures must be taken to prevent short circuits. Heaps of sand and drums filled with water must be kept ready near the pandals to counter unexpected fire mishaps.
Emphasising that CCTV cameras must be installed, he told the organisers that any suspicious movements must be reported to the police without delay.
He said that safeguarding the idols and the jewellry and other valuables rests on the organisers.
“Adequate lighting must be provided along the procession route and the place of immersion as these events takes place during night. The police department will write to the MESCOM to provide uninterrupted power supply during those days,” he said adding that the department t will also assist in providing ropes and life jackets.
Continuing, he said, the organizers must provide the list of volunteers designated for the job well in advance to the department.
He pointed that the tableaux and cutouts must not incite or provoke others.
The organizers should discuss these matters in a preparatory meeting before the festival, he suggested.
