Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district administration has extended prohibitory orders from July 11 midnight to July 21 midnight in all police stations limits of the district except those under Mangalore City Police Commissionerate.

Deputy Commissioner Dr. K G Jagadeesha, in an order under Criminal Procedure Code of 1973, Article 144, has extended the ban in all taluks including Bantwal, Puttur, Sullia and Belthangady .

During the period, the public is not allowed to assemble in groups of 5 and above in number and are banned from holding any public procession, ceremonies, public meetings etc. Carrying dangerous weapons including scythe, sword, stick, knife, club, baton which can cause physical injury too is not allowed during the ban period.

Carrying explosives, creating nuisance in public through posters, banners, exhibitions and through public address systems is forbidden. The public is requested to maintain peace and decorum and not incite communal violence during the period.

The district on boil for quite some time is slowly limping back to normal after few incidents of violence, mainly stabbing which led to deaths. The major part of the district under Section 144 for well over a month has put police personnel on duty, mainly from other places under enormous stress.

Whatever said and done, isn’t prevention better than cure?
