District Journalists Association pays tribute to late Agnel Rodrigues

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Association, Mangaluru Press Club and Patrika Bhavan Trust held a condolence meet for renowned social activist and senior journalist late Agnel Rodrigues of Coastal Times here on June 28 at the Press Club.

Senior journalists K Ananda Shetty, Ronald Anil Fernandes, B Raveendra Shetty, P B Harish Rai, Mohammed Arif Padubidre and Prakash Pandeshwara offered condolences on the occasion. Later they paid floral tribute to Agnel’s portrait.

Agnel’s son Sanjay, Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists Association president Jagannath Shetty Bala, journalists Ramakrishna R, Keshava Kundar, Pushparaj B N, Wilfred D’Souza and Ibrahim Adkasthala were present on the occasion. Association general secretary Shrinivas Nayak Indaje compered the programme.  

Renowned journalist and social worker Agnel Rodrigues passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, June 26 at a private hospital.

He was the Managing Director of English news channel Coastal Times for the last 10 years and was the source of inspiration behind ‘Agnel Adventure’, a firm he established on his own. He had played a vital role in creating public awareness on traffic rules through a program titled ‘Reverse Drive’. He had shared screen space with Kannada matinee idol Dr Rajkumar. He was a part of many Tulu films which include blockbuster Chaali Polilu, Madime, Oriyordari Asal, Namma Kudla and Telikida Bolli. He served as the public relations officer of Lions club, Secretary of Mangaluru Press Club and an executive committee member of Dakshina Kannada working journalists’ association. He was the recipient of Konkani Sahithya Academy award and District level Rajyotsava Award in recognition of his work in the field of journalism and social service.
