Mangaluru: Kudla Express, proposed day train between Bengaluru and Mangaluru is likely to be operated via Shravanabelagola instead of Mysore by March-end.

The move would drastically reduce the travel distance by 107 kms and time taken for the journey to below nine hours.

There are few impediments if the re-routing proposal has to come though. The first being authorization by the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS)to operate passenger trains on the newly constructed Nelamangala-Shravanabelagola line. The second being the availability of coaches and the last being the concurrence by the Railway Board to change the route.

Sources in the southern railway do not rule out the possibility but expect some delay with train running via Mysuru initially.

If everything goes well Kudla express will be operated through Shravanabeloagola within a month after starting operations. However, the train announced by the then Railway minister D V Sadananda Gowda will operate via Mysore initially, ie from March 1.
