Mangaluru: Eyeing the forth coming assembly elections in the state, the Congress on Sunday distributed saris, rice, bangles and kukum in ‘Sauhardha Samvesha’ at Kavoor.
About 500 women received the ‘gifts’ from the Congress party, in a party convention organized by the Mangaluru Surathkal Block Mahila Congress and Mangaluru North Youth Congress.
Addressing the gathering, State Mahila Congress President Lakshmi Hebbalkar said, “The Congress, which was in the forefront of Indian Independence is now being asked to show its patriotism. The Congress will strive to protect the multicultural and secular fabric of this country. The Congress party is driven by the ideologies of Buddha, Basavanna, Jesus Christ and others. We are sure people will stand by the Congress and denounce the BJP,” she said.
State Youth Congress Committee Vice President Amrutha Gowda flagged of the rally. Mangaluru North MLA Moideen Bava presided.
District Congress Committee President Harish Kumar, Congress leader Vijay Kumar Shetty and others were present.
