Mangaluru: The City South Block Congress Committee protested against the National Highways Authority of India ( NHAI) over delay in completing major road projects in the city limits.
The protestors contended that the four-laning of National Highway No 66 (NH-66) passing through the city has remained incomplete for eight years after the project began. In addition, the flyover construction at Mahavir Circle (Pumpwell) has been causing a lot of inconvenience to the public. Traffic blocks have become routine and low lying areas getting inundated around Ujjodi area in the event of rains and contaminating drinking water in the area, they argued.
Medical college staff and students, officer goers and regular travellers get unduly delayed due to frequent traffic blocks around the areas where flyover work is under progress.
The protesters submitted a memorandum to the Project Director (NHAI) to the complete the works before the onset of monsoon to end the woes of general public.
