Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district Legal Services Authority president and District Principal and Sessions Court Judge Kadlur Sathyanarayana opined that sexual harassment against children can be prevented only through a collective effort.
Inaugurating an awareness and interaction programme with the public on child trafficking and protection at the Nethravathi auditorium of the Zilla Panchayath office on Saturday, January 3, Kadlur said that there is a need to understand the sensitive mind of children. “Children become victims of sexual harassment from outsiders due to the negligence of their parents. Not only poverty, but also a rich financial background can be a reason for sexual harassment against children,” he said.
Kadlur then asked the parents and guardians concentration highly on the safety of their children. “The heads of educational institutions should take appropriate measures to ensure that no child becomes a victim of sexual harassment,” he added.
Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr R Selvamani presided over the programme. Senior civil judge Gangadhar A J, State Human Rights Commission president Parashuram, District Health Officer M Ramakrishna Rao, Mangaluru Bar Association president N Narasimha Hegde and others were present.
