Mangaluru: The Crime Crime Branch sleuths thwarted a major burglary and murder bid and arrested six persons on Sunday.
The arrested are Safwan Hussain (33), Mohommad Faizal (33), Shamshuddin (27) from Surathkal, Abdul Nazir alias Don Nazir (34) from Yemmekere, Umar Farooq (25) and Mohommed Ansar (30) from Ullal.
Addressing a news conference DCP Shantharaju said that acting on a tip off the police waylaid a Swift car in which the six were travelling near Tannirbavi and nabbed them. During interrogation it was found that the gang was ready to strike a wealthy person’s residence.
The police has recovered the Swift car, seven live bullets, two pistols, two knives and few mobile phone. An auto too has been seized.
Safwan Hussain has 23 charges against him which range from murder, attempt to murder, abduction, theft, assault on police among others. Goonda Act was invoked against him and he was put behind bars. He was out on bail only two months ago.
Faizal has eight cases against him, Abdul Nazir has nine cases booked against him, Umar has three cases. All of them have cases pertaining to murder, attempt to murder and theft mainly. Mohommad Ansar has no criminal credentials.
