Car-Truck Collision: SFI executive member dies, 2 grievously injured

Kasaragod: In a head-on collision between car and a truck, a district SFI executive member died whereas two others were grievously injured near Nayammura Mule on the outskirts of the city on February 18.

Ahmed Afzal (23), an engineering graduate and a resident of Sullippady Chennikere is the deceased.

Vinod (24), a resident of Periyatadka Panyal and Nasseruddin (26), resident of Puttige Melangara suffered grievous injuries.

Ahmed Afzal, an active SFI executive member died on the way to the hospital after locals extricated his body out of mangled remains of the car. Deceased Afzal’s brother Mohammed Hashim is a reporter with Deshabhimani, a news daily and former secretary of local press club.

After dropping SFI State Secretary K Suhaila to the railway station they were on their way to college to witness Kalotsav, a college fest. The accident occurred when their car collided with a goods-laden lorry heading towards Mangaluru.

The mortal remains were handed over to the relatives after postmortem at Kasaragod General Hospital.

The Kalotsav fest stands postponed to February 19 in view of the tragic accident.
The body was kept at CPM district office and M G Kamath Library premises to enable people to pay last respects.

Vidyanagar police have registered a case.
