Kasargod: Following hike in KSRTC bus fare on Kasargod-Mangaluru route, BJP workers protested by travelling ticketless here on February 14.

Ever since toll collection began at Talapady toll booth, the minimum ticket fare in KSRTC buses has been increased from Rs 50 to Rs 53. The passengers have been unhappy about the hike and following hike in bus fare, over 50 BJP workers led by district president Shrikanth paid Rs 50 and when the conductor asked them to pay extra Rs 3, they denied.

As the BJP members were adamant not to pay the additional Rs 3, the conductor refused to take any money from the protesters, due to which the protesters traveled all the way to Kumbla without ticket.

The passengers were dropped near Kumbla police station, where the BJP members had a discussion with the police about the hike.

The Talapady toll both started collecting toll couple of days ago and this has sparked unrest at the spot as the locals- both from Karnataka and Kerala have been demanding stopping of toll collection till the NH development works are completed.

With the toll collection, the bus fare has been hiked accordingly.
