Sullia: The present police outpost at Bellare in Sullia taluk will be upgraded to a full-fledged police station in three months time as the government has sanctioned funds for the same, said sources. The same will put to rest the long pending demand of people around the villages of Bellare.
The existing Bellare police out-post
At present as many as seven villages from Sullia taluk are under the Bellare outpost jurisdiction and if upgraded it will have 21 villages from Sullia and Puttur taluk as well as villages from Kadaba and Subrahmanya town limits.
Though an outpost is functional at Bellare, cases from Sampaje to Balila are registered at Sullia police station, which already has its hands full. The locals say that when it came to handling cases from distant places, especially outside Sullia limits, there was a sense of reluctance on the part of the police. This apart, the town is located on Subramanya – Manjeshwara stretch and if the outpost is upgraded it will relieve pressure of stations like Sullia, Kadaba and Subrahmanya.
Hence, the locals have been demanding upgrade of the outpost. A survey was conducted to assess the demand and based on the survey report a proposal was submitted to the government.
With the news that the outpost will be upgraded soon, the locals are heaving a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, with increase in the number of accident cases and traffic violations in places in and around Sullia town people are demanding a separate traffic police station to handle traffic related cases.
At present even traffic related cases are being handled at Sullia police station, which is already taking care of law and order cases.
The locals say that with Sullia growing as a major commercial and education hotspot, there is an urgent need to have separate traffic police station at the earliest.
