Mangaluru: In protest against a customer assault on a senior bank manager, hundreds of bank officers and employees, under the banner All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC), staged a protest march on Thursday, March 23.

It is learnt that on March 15, a Syndicate Bank customer, Amar Soans had visited the Katilpalya branch to deposit cash in his account, which had become dormant. Reportedly, he got into an argument with the staff who insisted for the KYC (Know Your Customer) documents to activate the dormant account. The staff personnel suggested him to meet the senior manager, Kunjanna Naik in this regard. However, Soans not only abused Naik for not permitting him to deposit cash but also physically assaulted him on that day.

The bankers took out a rally from the regional office of Syndicate bank in Hampankatta to Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding action against the accused and protection to bank staff by raising slogans and flashing placards.
