Mangaluru: Nana Patekar, a renowned actor and social activist, was in the city to extend his support for the 200th Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan by Ramakrishna Mission.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the mission by painting the Mangaluru University College wall at Hampankatta here on February 12 and flagging off the rally Nana Patekar said that the concept of Swacch Bharat needs us to maintain our home and surrounding areas clean thereby leading to a beautiful and prosperous nation.
He added that while people tend to talk about cleanliness, they seem to forget their responsibilities exhorting that cleanliness is a necessary for a healthy life. He however lamented that we need to organize Swacch Bharat Abhiyans, to make our country clean.
“PM Modi started this initiative to make our country clean but people are negligent. People should understand the basic needs and they should voluntarily keep their surroundings clean,” he said.
Replying to a question on why the people are so negligent about the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, Nana Patekar said that the abhiyan should be a part and parcel of our everyday life and not simply a momentary drive. The government will change, but we need to understand our responsibilities for our country.
Nana Patekar also said that while we heap praises on other countries for their cleanliness we too strictly follows the rules laid down there and behave well. Contrary to that in our country, we hardly care for the law since the same is not strict here. He expressed pleasure that the youth were joining hands in Ramakrishna Mission’s initiative of the Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan to help clean the city.
Convenor of Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan of Ramakrishna Mission Swami Chidambarananda, Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, Capt Ganesh Karnik and others were also present.
Prior to the Swacch Mangaluru Abhiyan rally, the new auto rickshaw stand was inaugurated by Swami Jitakamanandaji of Ramakrishna Math by cutting the ribbon opposite Mangaluru University college.
