ACB DySP Sudhir M Hegde, SP Rajendra Prasad to get Prez Police Medal

Mangaluru/Madikeri: Sudhir M Hegde, DySP of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Dakshina Kannada has been selected for the President’s Police Medal For Meritorious Service during this year’s Independence Day.

Sudhir M Hegde joined Karnataka Police Department in 1996. He has served the department as Sub Inspector, Circle Inspector in Gulbarga, Karwar, Davanagere and Chikkamagaluru. In April 2016, Hegde was appointed as DySP for ACB.

In 2001, he secured the Chief Minister’s Medal, and in 2002 the All India Police Medal.

State government also honoured him for an act of bravery during police encounters with notorious supari killer Chandappa Harijan who was wanted in 36 grievous crimes in 2000 and notorious Supari killer Chahuan and Ashok Patil who were wanted in more than 15 criminal cases of murder, dacoity in 2002.

He also arrested five terrorists belonging to Deendar Anjuman, in which case the court pronounced death sentence for four. In 2006, he arrested Abdul Rehman of Lashkar-e-Taiba and produced him to court. Rehman was sentenced to life imprisonment.

He also arrested several criminals in cases of murder, dacoity, rape, acid attacks and also averted several communal riots as a police officer. During his tenure, two naxals also surrendered to the police department in Chikkamagaluru district.

Kodagu District Superintendent of Police (SP) P Rajendra Prasad will also be honoured with the Presidential Medal for meritorious service this Independence Day.

After taking charge in June 2016, SP Rajendra Prasad has been successful in detecting multiple crime cases and maintaining law and order over the last one year in an efficient manner. He has stemmed communal conflicts by taking necessary precautionary steps. At the same time he has managed to bring about reconciliation among the various factions to restore harmony in society and succeeded in creating awareness among general public, especially students about crimes.

P Rajendra Prasad, who is well-respected by the general public, associations and institutions for his committed service expressed happiness at being selected for President’s Medal for meritorious service during his service in Kodagu. The responsibility is even greater now, stated an elated Prasad and promised to provide justice by maintaining law and order in future too.

Brief profile of SP Prasad

In 1999, DySP Rajendra Prasad served as acting SP in the district for three years, when the then SP Umesh went on vacation. A resident of Kolar district, Prasad studied in Bangalore and worked as a lecturer in Tumkur, Mudigere and Bangalore for 12 years before joining the police department. A degree holder in Law, Rajendra Prasad became an IPS officer in 2007 after clearing KPSC examination in 1997.
