A grateful MCC Mayor Harinath signs off listing achievements

Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) Mayor Harinath probably addressed his last press conference as city mayor and listed out achievements during his tenure, scheduled to end on March 9.

Talking to media, the Mayor highlighted decentralisation of power by opening zonal offices at Surathkal, Kadri and Lalbagh with the latter two likely to be operational by month end.

Mangaluru city being chosen for the Smart City Project and being declared Open defecation free (ODF) during his tenure gave him immense happiness, Mayor stated.

Decline in the number of malarial cases by 46 percent over the last six months post monsoon, were among the noteworthy achievements, Mayor said but rued over the fact that he was unable to make the city plastic free during his tenure.

Several road, sewage, park, crematorium and market projects are in the execution stage Mayor said, and added, “The concept plan for the private bus-stand at Pumpwell has been handed over to KUIDFC for further consideration.”

Installation of LED lights in the city limits, acquisition of land for solid waste disposal at Vamanjoor and for disposal of debris at Kunjatbail were among the other prominent projects that figured in Mayor’s press briefing.

Housing project for pourakarmikas, separate street vendors’ zone, steps taken towards computerisation to make MCC paperless also figured in the list of achievements.

Mayor thanked District In-charge Minister Ramanath Rai, MLAs Moideen Bava and J R Lobo, Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer and his colleagues in MCC for their support during his tenure. He thanked private organisations and NGOs for their cooperation in controlling malaria during his tenure. He thanked the media for creating awareness on issues of public concern.

MCC Commissioner Mohammed Nazeer, Shashidhar Hegde, corporators Sabitha Misquith, Appi, Kavitha Sanil were among those present on the occasion.
