Mangaluru: Congress cadre lack communication skills to publicize the programs initiated and implemented by the state. This was one of the prime reasons for the opposition to build a wrong perception of the policies of the state.

The government has been drafting pro-people and pro-poor policies, but according to Women and Child Development Minster Umashree, party workers failed to communicate the same to the people. She opined that the key opposition party in the state, the BJP utilized this to benefit their political prospects. She was addressing the press at District Congress Office here in Hampankatta.

“It is the Congress, after which it came to power, that sketched many schemes to invigorate the plight of poor.” Naming a few schemes, Anna Bhagya, Kshira Bhagya, Loan waiver to farmers and others she claimed no other government in the past introduced these number of policies to the people. However she expressed the view that the workers should inculcate the skill to publicize these programs among the general public.

Talking on secularism, she said the term was only remained in  political speeches but has not been practiced. The Minister criticized the BJP led union government for consolidating votes in the name of Hindutva ,thus dividing the nation in the name of religion. The BJP wants to gain control across the nation which was a dangerous trend in democracy. “All inhabitants of this nation are Indians and Hinduism accepts other faiths,” she said.

Umashree criticized the land acquisition ordinance which would soon be realized as a  bill. She alleged that the BJP in the ordinance neglected the farmers which shows, how the government was working in the interests of giant corporates. When press people asked about the whereabouts of Rahul Gandhi who has been missing from the parliament and agitations, she said his absence should not be made an issue as he might have genuine reasons to apply leave.

The Minister, informed the meeting that her ministry was making efforts to streamline all the programs. The government would soon give laptops for blind children to aide their knowledge and skills. She said that the honorarium for the Anganwadi workers has been increased and it would be hiked further in the coming days. She alleged that unions are spreading false information on privatization of Anganwadis, as complete privatization was not on the avail.
