Mangalore: The recent chaos at the Mangalore International Airport on Saturday has caught the attention of Karnataka minister for health and family welfare U T Khader on Monday September 15, wherein he has demanded an explanation from authorities concerned to the trouble dealt by a passenger.
A resident of Uppala, 29-year-old Abdul Khader, the passenger was troubled by the MIA authorities after a faulty swollen tab battery that exposed the circuitry of the tab forced airport security to detain him claiming it to be explosive.
Abdul, who was scheduled to take the Dubai flight and join work there on Sunday, had to go through a lot of crisis due to the episode.
In a statement released here, the minister said a memorandum will be sent to the union ministry for civil aviation demanding a thorough probe in to the chain of events that led to an impression that Abdul Khader was carrying explosives.
The minister said the people have a right to know where the lapses occurred leading to the incident being blown out of proportion. Noting that prima facie lapses are seen on part of Jet Airways staff, the minister demanded a probe.
Abdul was supposed to take the Jet Airways 9W352 flight at 11.15 pm on Saturday to Dubai when security personnel detained him at MIA after they found ‘exposed’ circuitry inside his bag.
The minister said the security personnel could have handled the situation with far greater tact rather than getting hyper over the situation.
Abdul finally left for Dubai, 24-hours later on Sunday by a Jet Airways flight after the local law enforcement agencies cleared him.
