Tobacco sold in chewing gum: One arrested

Kasargod: Manjeshwar Excise staff have arrested sundara (60) and seized 3,570 packs of tobacco products which were carried in a KSRTC bus from Karnataka here on September 2.

Sundara used to mix the tobacco in chewing gum in order to sell it to children. The mixed product had “Lipi” printed on the pack. He was carrying the illegal products in four bags when he was arrested.

Students were the main target of the tobacco dealer, who used to sell these products in the small shops near schools.

It is learnt that he confessed to his illegal acts during investigation.

After govt banned Panmasala products in Kerala, officials were checking thoroughly for such products at the check posts. It is in this context, that the excise duty officials found these products.

Excise inspector Velayudhan and team carried out the inspection.
