State must appoint women archaks in Muzrai temples, Poojary

Mangalore: Former union minister and chief of Kudroli temple B. Janardhana Poojary who scripted history by inducting widows and women belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community as archaks (priests), asked the state government to follow its suit and appoint women archaks in temple coming under Muzrai department.

Speaking to the reporters on Wednesday, Poojary said, “The government need not wait for the cabinet to decide, to make such moves’.

After Shri Gokarnatheshwara Temple appointed women as priests, Chief Minister Siddaramaih had accepted the suggestion of B. Janardhana Poojary. Besides, the reports also stated that Social Welfare Minister Anjaneya also hinted to appoint men belonging to the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) as priests in the Muzrai department.
