St Aloysius College, Mayor propagates self employment among women

Mangaluru: The MSW Department and Centre for Social Concern of St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Mangaluru has organized a programme for Distribution of Tailoring Machines to the Women of Basavalingappa Nagara on March 23 at Basavalingappa Nagara, Pachanady.

This programme was continuation of the Tailoring course that was held by the college for the women who belonged to the Low Income Groups.

Chief Guest Jacintha Alfred, Mayor of Mangalore City Corporation motivated the Women to use the machines for self employment and highlighted the need of education and skills for the women and children.

She also said that Social Work students should always be ready to respond to the needy and assured her co operation to students in their field work activities at various parts of City. Mayor instilled hope in people of the community by expressing her willingness to listen to people’s needs and respond to the same in possible ways.

President of the Programme Rev Fr Francis D’Almeida, Vice Principal and coordinator of Centre for Social Concern of St Aloysius College (Autonomous), Mangaluru encouraged the women to take up challenge of Self Employment and invited the men of the community to support the women and children for education and development.

Rev Fr Eric Mathias, the Correspondent of St Aloysius College primary school, Mangaluru in his address focused on the key needs of the community like housing, water, education etc and expressed his desire to continue the work for the people of Basavalingappa Nagara.

Community leaders Ramanna, Jayakara, Kamalamma, Mamatha were present on the Dias. Nine tailoring machines were freely distributed to the beneficiaries of tailoring course.

Local people honored the Mayor and Mayor also visited the whole area and listened to the needs of the people during the function. Corporator Kavitha Sanil was present for the Programme. Project’s Chief functionary Shwetha Rasquinha, HOD Dr Loveena Lobo, and Lohit Shetty of MSW Department along with the students of MSW had organized this programme.
