Mangaluru: Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly Jagadish Shettar on Friday alleged that the State government is not bothered to create the 43 new taluks that were announced by him when he was the Chief Minister.

Addressing presspersons, the BJP leader alleged that the State government led by the Congress has not released any funds or recruited the staff required for creating the new taluks. The State government has ignored creating new taluks fearing that the credit would go to the BJP, he said.

The former Chief Minister said that BJP would lay siege to the Suvarna Soudha at Belagavi on December 9 to protest against what Shettar alleged as “failure of the government in administration.” He reiterated that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah should drop four “tainted ministers” from the Cabinet before the Belagavi session or else, the BJP would disturb the proceedings of the House.

Shettar alleged that the law and order in the State had collapsed. He was in Mangalore to launch the membership drive of the party.

Earlier, Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar formally inaugurated the membership registration office in the presence of Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, former minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, district BJP president Pratap Simha Nayak among others.

He said the membership drive should be the beginning of the end of Congress rule in the region. The former chief minister accused the Karnataka government of failing to take forward people friendly programmes initiated by previous BJP government in the state.

Demanding the resignation of home minister K J George, he said, “The government is inefficient and K J George should resign. BJP will hold a massive protest demanding his resignation.”

He also demanded the sacking of ‘tainted’ ministers Dinesh Gundurao and Qamarul Islam and said, “Dinesh Gundurao has encroached 10 acres of land. He has no moral right to continue as minister. Qamarul Islam has also misused his position.”

“As many as 32 lac BPL cards have been cancelled, which shows the failure of  the administration. The government is not doing anything for the poor. Even Motamma and speaker Kagodu Thimappa have raised their voice against the inefficiency of the government,” he added.

He also condemned the government for failing to take action against illegal mining and the sand mafia and alleged that political leaders too were involved in this.

Asked to comment on the controversy surrounding the ‘Kiss of Love’ campaign in Bengaluru, Shettar condemned the campaign and said, “It is against the Indian culture. The government should deny permission to hold this campaign.”
