Mangaluru: To bridge the gap between community and police department, a unified helpline centre has been opened here at the SP office on Monday 27.

Superintendent of police S D Sharanappa inaugurated the Child, women and senior citizen’s helpline and said the concept of community policing has been initiated in the district for peace, harmony and safety.

The helpline has been opened at SP office to bring all helplines under one roof and make them efficient with the coordination of women and child department, department of welfare of disabled and senior citizens, Santwana, childline, Vishwas Trust, Prajna Counselling centre and Missing child Bureau.

“Initially the staff from concerned department will be at the helpline from 10am to 5pm. We will ensure justice and provide solutions to the aggrieved who visit the center”, SP said.

He also said that safety guidelines will be issued to schools and colleges coming under SP’s jurisdiction in the district.

The police department has also started monitoring the social media messages, a decision taken after Supreme court struck down Section 66A of the Information Technology Act recently.
