According to the sources in the college, the internal committee formed to enquire into the matter, conducted an opinion based survey of all students in the college, especially the class representatives. The survey states that the entire student community has requested to pardon the erring students and revoke suspension order.

Besides, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarti Parishad (ABVP) members had submitted a memorandum to the college’s principal asking to debar the students after the photo was uploaded on Facebook on February 22 and went viral online.

“The incident, the photo and its circulation on social media has created emotional outbursts among the student community and the public,” the college said in a letter to Mangalore University.

Later, the boy named Riyaz was thrashed allegedly by saffron outfit activists on Sunday after the photo appeared on Facebook, which appeared first on Newskarnataka.com.

Meanwhile, the college authorities formed an internal committee, consisting of four members, to look into the matter. After a preliminary inquiry, the committee decided to suspend the students until further inquiry.

Speaking to newskarnataka.com, college principal K. Rajamohan Rao said that the suspension was not aimed at spoiling the future of students. “It’s for their misconduct and bringing the phone to the classroom. The student community has requested to pardon them. I will convey my opinion before the committee, which will take a final call on Monday”, he said favoring withdrawal of suspension order.

On the other side, a police probe is on to find the person who had posted the photo on Facebook. The police mentioned that they have detained two persons for assaulting Riyaz, in connection with the incident.
