Mangalore: District in-charge minister B. Ramanath Rai directed the officers of the district administration to see that all the lorries transporting sand will have a Geographic Positioning System (GPS) facility.
In a meeting which discussed on the issue of sand mining with the officials of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttar Kannada, on Tuesday, Rai insisted to adopt single system in sand mining.
The meeting also decided to form a committee comprising of seven persons who will verify the licensing.
Sand should be available to the general public in simple procedure. Sand mining should be followed according to the legal system. Besides, the locals should get the sand for lower price rates, the minister said.
He directed the officials to fix GPS in all the lorries transporting sand and the district administration to have control over it. Besides, a meeting should be called on sand mining issue.
The minister asked the Deputy Commissioner A.B Ibrahim to identify the areas of sand mining and submit a report to the government. He said, it’s been already followed in the districts such as Uttar Kannada and Udupi.
Minister said he would meet chief minister Siddaramaih on Octomber 12 in Bangalore on the issue of sand mining.
In the meeting, A.B Ibrahim, Ramachandra, Pattana Shetty, Uttara Kannada DC Ujwal Gosh, ZP CEO Thulsi Maddineni were present.
