Ramanath Rai makes many promises on Republic Day

Mangaluru: With several projects having commenced or on the cusp of commencement, Dakshina Kannada in-charge minister B. Ramanath Rai on Monday emphasized on the city’s systematic development and government’s commitment to uplift the poor and all sections of the society.

Speaking at the 66th Republic Day here at Nehru Maidan, Rai said the district has been successful in reaching out to the people. He spoke about revenue adalats, which has been helpful in disposing of cases of land disputes. State government’s pension adalat and Janata Darshan programmes have helped people to solve their problems at the taluk level, in the presence of legislators and government officers, he added.

The minister further said that the proposal to construct a district complex – where all the departments will come under one roof – is before the State government. “We have identified the place in Padil and we are waiting for the government’s nod, he said. Besides, he said that the fund for the construction of Ambedkar Bhavan and Ranga Mandira in the city has been released, he added.

Mr. Rai also spoke about the completion of Mani-Mysuru road and the ongoing work at the important Shiradi Ghat stretch. He also spoke about the implementation of ‘Paschimavahini’ project to make water available for everyone. On Kasturirangan project, he said that it will only be implemented after consulting the people. Five villages in every assemby constituency will also be developed, he said

Meanwhile, the ‘Sarvotham Seva Award’ was conferred on Hukrapa Naik, Group D employee, Community Health Centre, Sullia; Krishna, cook, Circuit House, Kadri, Mangaluru; K. Mohammed, Revenue Inspector, Mangaluru City Corporation; Kanthappa Gowda, First Division Assistant, Block Education Officers’ office, Puttur; Jean Mary Tavro, Tahsildar, town survey office, Mangaluru and Dr. D.V. Rajesh, District Surveillance Officer, Health and Family Welfare Department, Mangaluru for dedication to duty beyond call of service.

There was an attractive parade, by the police force, NCC, NSS and Bharat Seva Dal volunteers, belonging to the different schools and colleges in the city.

Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim, Mayor Mahabala Maarla, Mangaluru MLA’s J R Lobo and B A Mohiuddin Bawa, superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa S D, Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy president Roy Castelino, MLC Ivan D’Souza, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy president Mohammad Haneef were among others present.
