Protesters set deadline to meet demands of Dalits, farmers

Moodbidri: Various organizations confronted the Shirthady gram panchayat with regards to issues such as implementation of Reservations and funds for dalits, titles and door number, transparency in BPL system, concretization of road in Shirthady gram panchayath limits and other such issues.

Karnataka Farmer’s association, Committee for dalit rights, Janavadi Women association, and DYFI association held a demonstration in front of panchayath and agitated, recently.

Karnataka Farmer’s association secretary K Yadava Shetty while addressing the protesters said that benefits given by the government have been going in the hands of those who can afford not the dalits and poor.

Beneficiaries also have the right to know about complete information regarding benefits they get from government. It is suspected that the funds or the grants reserved for the dalits have been used for other works, he accused.

Udyoga Khatari Yojane village director Savitha, Panchayath president Lakshman, PDO Dr Manohar gave some details of schemes to the protesters and tried to clarify the issue. However the associations warned of holding protest if they do not meet up the demands such as privileges to dalits and handicapped, house and sites for the villagers in the next 15 days.

Dalit rights committee district Co-convenor Lingappa Nanthoor, Muncipality member Ramani, Appu Poojary, Jayaram Poojary, Shankar Valpady, Krishnappa Konaje, Aboobakkar, Jalajakshi Shetty and others were present.
