Moodbidri: Finally there seems to be some light at the end of the tunnel in the serial theft case in the Moodbidri area. Sources say that the police outpost will be set up in the area soon. Locals were fed up of the recent theft cases in two Basadis, a jewellery and other places in the last 15 months.
A few years ago, after a theft incident in Siddhanta Mandir, a proposal was sent to government to establish an outpost in Jainpete in Moodbidri. However, no action was taken in this regard by the then government. After another theft case in Here Basadi On October 7 this year, the process of setting up an outpost has been hastened by the present government to provide security in Basadis and also Moodbidri area.
District incharge minister B Ramanath Rai, Minister for fisheries Abhayachandra Jain, have personally taken interest in this regard.
Abhayachandra Jain had discussed this issue with Moodbidri Jain seer. Jain mutt has agreed to provide boarding and lodging for the outpost personnel along with a suitable location for the outpost. Sources said that the possibilities are a room in front of Jain mutt or a place in Gurubasadi.
Moodbidri Jain mutt Charukeerthi Pandithacharyavarya Swamiji said that he had held discussions with ministers, police officers and Jain community. The final decision regarding outpost will be made known after 15 days. We will co-operate with the concerned officials to provide security to the basadis and Moodbidri, he said.
One ASI, 4 head constables and more than five constables are required to staff an outpost. “We have given tight security in Jainpete and have put up barricades. Vehicles have been checked at the checkpoint”, said police sources.
