Police nab three for looting tourist

Mangaluru: Pandeshwar Police on Thursday arrested three people, who allegedly robbed the belongings of a tourist near the central railway station three months ago.

The police gave the names of arrested as Sarfaz (29), Sharuk (19), residents from Bolara and A.K Afeez (24) of Jeppu.

The police have also seized a gold finger ring weighing 16 grams, Rs 10,100 cash and the knife, which was used for the robbery.

According to the complaint, on August 27 Sajan N. arrived from Kottayam at the central railway station in the city. As he was walking towards the bus stand, a gang of five men abducted him in a Maruti Omni. The gang threatened Sajan and robbed his laptop, gold finger ring, cash and other valuables. They also snatched his ATM card using which they withdrew Rs 27,000 later.

The victim had written this incident in a post card and sent it to Mangalore Police Commissioner R Hithendra urging the police to investigate the incident.

On October 25, while patrolling, the police found Santhosh Kumar D’Silva of Nandigudda, one of the accused in the case, along with the Maruti Omni and seized it and arrested the accused. He was sent to judicial custody. Later, the police, based on information garnered during interrogation,  managed to catch the three involved in the abduction.

The arrested were produced before the court which sent them to judicial custody.
