Mangaluru: Three days after the brutal attack on a final year student of Govinda Dasa College, Surathkal, sleuths from Mangaluru city police on Wednesday detained two persons, allegedly belonging to a saffron outfit.
K. Santhosh Babu, DCP (Law and order) told newskarnataka.com that the police have taken two persons into custody and in search of few more, who were party to the crime.
On Sunday, Mohammed Riyaz was thrashed brutally by a dozen of miscreants, after the photo, which was playfully taken in the classroom with a boy lying on the lap of five girls, went viral on the social media, drawing severe criticism by a section of the society. After the issue turned hostile, the college management too suspended five students who were in the picture, except Mohammed Riyaz.
The police further said that they are yet to interrogate the two whom they detained on Wednesday. “We do not know if they are affiliated to any organization”, he told our reporter in the Surathkal police station.
A source in the police said that the duo have admitted of committing the crime.
In addition to it, Santhosh Babu mentioned that they will interrogate fellow classmates – based on the complaint filed by a female student – to find out if the ‘controversial photo’ was posted on the social media, intentionally to malign the image.
