Mangaluru: In a blatant insult to journalists, a district president of Popular Front of India (PFI), Mohammad Athavulla termed scribes reporting on protest demonstrations staged against MRPL under the banner of Jokatte Nagarika Horata Samiti headed by Democratic Youth Federation of India State President Muneer Katipalla as ‘Communist Pimps’.

Athavulla on Friday on his facebook page alleged Muneer Katipalla – a communist leader from the district – of using a section of media to favor his public image.

“Some journalists who have named disruption by Jokatte locals during the erection of windshield through pelting stones as ‘Guerilla style of war’ are Communist Pimps”, said Athavulla in his status on the social networking site.

However his status chiding reporters irked by Jokatte residents, as the screenshot of Athavulla’s facebook page circulated among members of Horata Samiti and natives of Jokatte on WhatsApp.

A journalist from a renowned national news paper who had been covering MRPL pollution row and protests demanding anonymity quipped his writing on the facebook wall reflects his thinking. However, he did not wish to comment more on the episode.

“Fundamental outfit’s leader drafted this view succumbing to communal frustration” opined Anchor, Spandana Channel Rakshath Shetty. Athavulla’s aggravation against press persons and Muneer clearly shows he was miffed by Muneer’s leadership which created concrete platform for Jokatte residents to materialize fight against MRPL. He condemned Athavulla’s statements against journalists and said that the press men were just doing their job.

A principal correspondent of Kannada Prabha, Jitendra Kundeshwara also condemned irrational view of Athavulla. He explained a report would sound sweet to some, bitter to few. It does not mean reporters were partisans. Journalists always make effort to report ground realities and there could be some flaws. “It is unfortunate, that the PFI leader is using abusive term against journos. Journalists are not immature to get swayed by DYFI leader Muneer”, he stressed.

Muneer speaking to Newskarnataka.com said that the MRPL creating pollution has been reported on the verified claims made by scribes. “I am protesting against a mammoth company and in all dimensions, the company could buy journos to publish report in favor of the MRPL.” The reports in many section of the media clarify on whether Muneer was misusing media or not for his benefits, he articulated.

When Newskarnataka contacted PFI District President Mohammad Athavulla, he declined to comment on the incident.
