Mangalore: The Mangalore city corporation held its general session, to discuss the various issues concerning to the city under the leadership of Mayor Mahabala Maarla on Wednesday July 30.
The issue pertaining to the MCC commissioner’s post and the confusion over the issue also came up for discussion.
The Mayor informed the meeting that the Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim has handed over charge of the post to MCC Deputy Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak.
The Property Tax
With regards to the property tax, the MCC declared that the property taxes will continue to be collected at earlier rates, thereby putting an end to all misconceptions. The excess amount if any found to have been paid by the property owners will be deducted from future dues, he said.
During the meeting the Mayor announced to reverse the hike of 15 percent affected on property tax during the period the city corporation was run by the DC as Administrative Officer in the absence of a mayor.
Malaria Control
The City Corporation has decided to impose penalty on the owners of buildings where breeding grounds for mosquitoes are found.
The amount fixed for residential houses for this violation stands at Rs 500, whereas it is Rs 5000 for commercial and multi-storied buildings, Rs 15,500 in case of under construction buildings and Rs 5,000 for multiple-storied houses. The council gave its nod for making changes to the bylaw relating to these revisions.
