No action on open pits at Kuppepadau stone quarry

Bantwal :Though the government has given strict instructions to close unused borewells after a series of tragic deaths, it seems that people and the officials are still not serious about it. For example many big open pits are seen in the stone quarries in this area.

Kallady is a village in Karambaru in Kuppepadau gram panchayath limits in Mangalore, where these big open pits are seen. Nobody had made an attempt to close these pits at Daddeguri and Jarigekatte stone quarries.

The instructions to close open pits given by DC A B Ibrahim, seems to be not seriously taken in this village. No action has been taken though many children have died after falling into these pits recently. Another unused well near Kallady school premises is also left open.

Childern’s association have brought this issue to the notice of DC and Gram panchayath. They have also brought the issue to the notice of Prajna counselling centre. Its director William has personnaly reviewed the place and assured that action will be taken.
