Puttur: The case of alleged suicide of Shyama Prasad Shastri, the brother of Diwaker Shastri of Badakkila in Kedila village of Bantwal taluk who had leveled sexual harassment charges against Sri Raghaveshwara Theertha Swamiji of Hosanagar Ramachandrapura Mutt, on August 31, Sunday has now taken a new twist.

According to the reports, the wife of Mr. Shatri has claimed that her husband received threat calls from the disciples of the seer, which forced to kill himself. The Puttur police who are investigating the case said that they are tracing the source of the call and the conversation.

It may be recalled here that the 55 year old Shyama Prasad Shastri had ended his life by shooting himself on Sunday at his residence.

The confirmed reports said that Shyamprasad Shastri on Sunday wanted to meet Sri Raghaveshwara Bharathi swamiji in Kekkari. Shastri was reportedly not happy with two separate issues of blackmail and sexual harassment linked to his brother’s family and the swamiji. Hence, Shastri wanted to convince the seer that he did not like to involve in any of these developments. However, it is not sure what drove him to shoot himself.

Meanwhile, Shyama Prasad Shastri’s wife in an appeal to the police has said the repeated threatening calls as well as the fear of social boycott had driven her husband to take this extreme step. She also sought security in the backdrop of allegations made by Shyama Shastri’s brother Diwaker Shastri against the Ramachandrapur Mutt seer.

The police have registered a case under IPC section 306 and 506.
